What is it?

Zeroes is puzzle game about mathematics for Windows, Windows Phone, smartphones and tablets with Android. It is completely free, no purchases, no microtransactions! It has been released in the September 2015 on Google play. Game has over two hundred ratings with average score 4.8.

What is new?

Zeroes is available on new platforms Windows and Windows Phones. Game will be distributed through Windows Store. Why did I choose those platforms? I was searching for ways to get Zeroes to more devices, because it was successful on Android. I chose Windows Phones, because of my friends, who have them. Those friends helped me a lot. They tested it. Zeroes for Windows PC exists, because it was developed as universal app. Side product of it was PC version. So I took the opportunity.

Why is it after half of year almoast? There are several reasons. Although I used Unity, the porting wasn't as straithforward as I thought. I had to make some changes in the code. I also optimalized game to run smoothly on Windows Phones and I added support for mouse in case of Windows. The second reason is post apocalyptic open world RPG Breathers, which I codeveloped as my student project. The last small delay was caused by Microsoft. They didn't allow students to submit apps to Windows Store for one week, when the game was done. The two free updates are also new. They adds 40 levels to the game.

What is the goal of game?

The goal of game is to place blocks with mathematical operations, such as +1; -2; x5; between circles with numbers. Player must place blocks cleverly in order to calculate zero in every circle after applying mathematical operations. It is necessary to combine these blocks.

How big the game is?

There are 100 puzzles, which are divided into five worlds. Each world has its own colors and adds new game mechanics. There are sum and subtraction in the first world. The second world adds multiplication and division, and the third world adds diagonal blocks. There are also two free updates. The first adds world containing roots and powers and the second adds modulo operation.

Why did I created such a game?

I always try to create games that have meaning. I believe that mathematics is beautiful and fun. I'd like to show you this through the game. Mathematics isn't the monster, which you remember from school. Mathematics is beautiful, when you can play with it and try different approaches with instant response and without fear of failure. Discover beautiful and fun math!

Who created Zeroes?

Me, Petr Marek! Game developer, student and scoutmaster from Czech Republic.

I study informatics at CTU in Prague. That is why I meet math every day.

I am also scoutmaster in the Žatec scout centre, where I come from. Scouting is, inter alia, about learning through play. That's why I am affected also by this.

I started with the creation of games when I got to high school. It was six years ago. My friends and I created games under the name "Peord games". We have created six freeware PC games. We also participated in two local indie game competitions. We won one. Cooperation within Peord games became complicated after entering college, mainly because of lack of time. That's why I created only myself Android game engine for text games called Tell Me Adventure. It wasn't successful. Zeroes is my second solo project.

How was Zeroes made?

I had the idea for a similar game earlier. Originally it was to be a detective game with photos of old buildings, in which player interlinks important points. The theme was different, however gameplay mechanics were similar. But the idea went into a drawer, because I'm not very good with graphics and the creation of graphics was beyond my skills.

I went back to the idea in August 2014. I've simplified the game, left the detective theme and I decided to create abstract graphics. Development continued with pauses during semesters until this summer. The game was made mostly on holidays, weekends and evenings.

Windows phone version was the next logical step in bringing Zeroes to more players. I started to work on it right after version for Android. I focused on optimalization and I also recreated controlls for Windows 10 version. There was no big problems thanks to Unity engine, however I expected that I would be created faster.

What next?

It is not sure for 100%. Zeroes is missing on one last main mobile platform. Zeroes for iOS is my goal.
